Is What I’m Doing Worth It? The Impact of Yoga and Mindful Teaching
Every so often, I am struck with the thought, “Is what I’m doing worth it?”
From large-scale events to small community classes, from teaching for six months to over a decade, sometimes we are struck with doubt and question if what we are doing matters.
And then I think back to some of my pivotal moments:
The first yoga class I took had 3 people in it, and I will never forget it.
The first yoga teacher training I took had 5 students, and it changed the trajectory of my life.
The first outdoor yoga class I took had dozens of people, and it helped me feel like I belonged.
The first studio class I taught sold out, and I finally felt in my purpose.
I have taught to 1 person and I have taught to many. I have been that 1 student, and I have been one of many. The impact is always happening. The ripple is bigger than you can imagine. And in a world where it feels like so much is out of our control, being a voice of compassion and care is more important than ever.
Some of the most pivotal moments in my life were unexpected and simple, and if those teachers hadn’t shown up for me, who knows where I’d be today.
Maya Angelou said, "Your legacy is every life you have ever touched."
In those moments where it feels like you are not doing enough, being enough, creating enough, there are thousands, if not millions, of moments in your life that maybe you don't think about twice, but it means the world to someone else.
Keep showing up, keep doing your best, it is all happening 💛
Big, big gratitude to the many teachers that impacted my life and paved the way for me, and I am grateful I can continue to do the same ☀️
